COMPUTERIZED MODELING…

Orion Engineering has significant experience with difficult slope issues including National Park road systems, and residential and commercial hillside development. Site reconnaissance is followed by geologic characterization and mapping, field-developed-cross sections, subsurface investigation, laboratory testing, and finally, slope stability analysis.

Orion Engineering uses computerized slope stability programs to assess the stability of the project. The primary modeling software we utilize is "XSTABL" developed at the University of Idaho, and used by the FHWA.

We give special attention to potential groundwater and phreatic surfaces in our analysis. We have experience in instrumentation including strain gages, pressure transducers, extensometers, and inclinometers. Typical projects requiring slope stability analysis, and analysis methods include:

Slope Stability Analysis
Oliver Project Hamilton, Montana
Slope Stability Analysis
FHWA Landslide, John Day, OR

Typical Slope Stability Projects:

  • Active Landslides
  • Hillside Development
  • Retaining Systems
  • Fill and Cut Slopes
  • Temporary Construction Slopes
  • Jacking Pits
  • Excavations
  • Embankments
  • Mine Reclamation Repositories

Analysis Methods:

  • Bishop and Janbu
  • Infinite Slope Failures
  • Block Surface Failures

STABILIZATION...

Orion Engineering has designed numerous stabilization measures related to slope stability.
We use computer modeling techniques to simulate existing conditions and to assess alternate stabilization concepts and configurations. Water drainage is a critical aspect of ourdesigns. Typical slope stability stabilization measures includes:

Typical Stability Designs:

  • Reinforced Soil Slopes
  • Micropiles
  • Rock Buttresses
  • Curtian Walls and Perimeter Drains
  • Horizontal Drains
  • Retaining Structures
